If you would like to see Akan-Mashu National Park and the surrounding area to learn about the natural history, Japanese and Ainu culture, or other areas of interest;

  • It’s a private tour and the maximum number of guests is 3.
  • We will estimate the guide fee based on your request.
  • Please note that the guide fee does not include your meals, and additional fees such as admission fee and experience fee, etc. for you and your guide.

Here are just some ideas of itineraries:

  1. One day excursion within Teshikaga town (approx. 6 hours) JPY 30,000~ / group

Visit Lake Mashu and enjoy spectacular views from two different lookouts. Observe an active volcano – Mt. Io where you can see multiple fumaroles that continue to rumble and vent white steam and hike the circuit trail in the small peninsula which juts out from the largest caldera lake of Japan – Lake Kussharo. Go up to one of the passes on the outer rim of Kussharo caldera that overlooks Lake Kussharo and the sea of Okhotsk if the weather permits.

2. One day excursion from Teshikaga town to neighboring towns (approx. 7 hours) JPY 40,000~ / group

Visit the incredibly transparent emerald green Kaminoko pond where the water of Lake Mashu gushes out. Drive to the sea of Okhotsk to enjoy walking through a wild flower garden along the beach or visit the Museum of the Northern People or the Museum of Drift Ice. Go up to one of the passes on the outer rim of Kussharo caldera that overlooks Lake Kussharo before coming back to Teshikaga.

Visit Kushiro wetland National Park – the largest wetland in Japan, enjoy wonderful views from outlooks around the wetland and short hikes to see the fauna and flora in this unique natural environment. Visit the Wildlife Center or Red Crowned Crane’s Park to get to know more about nature in the region or Kushiro city museum where you can learn about Japanese and Ainu history and culture in the area.
